* Das Kerzlein ist bis auf den ⇨ Nagel(s.d.) abgebrannt. – Eiselein, 371; Wurzbach II, 258.
Eiselein (485) meint, man habe Kerzlein auf den Daumennagel geklebt und herabbrennen lassen. Wurzbach (a.a.O.) erklärt Nagel dialektisch, wo es in österreichischer Mundart Neige (Ende) bezeichne. Er kennt die Sitte nicht, Wachs auf den Nagel zu kleben. Ich habe es in Schlesien zur Weihnachtszeit oft gesehen.
